The corporate office of HEI continues to "support the community in which we live" by donating time and money to Habitat for Humanity. Habitat for Humanity provides no-interest loans to families. The families must provide "sweat equity" alongside the builders and volunteers in building their home. HEI has been involved with Habitat for several years as a Silver sponsor; supporting their mission of fulfilling the dream of home ownership. |

Every year around the holiday season the Crowne Plaza San Antonio participates in the Angel Tree Program and “adopts” a child for Christmas. The children they “adopt” may be homeless, from single parent homes, or even children of inmates in prison. Some of the families who need their help are families who barely scrape by and have no money for toys or new clothes for their children. Associates choose an angel and purchase gifts from their wish list. They help bring a smile to a child’s face and provide gifts they might not otherwise receive. The program was a huge success with 70 “adopted” angels. |

It didn’t take long for our newest hotel, the Hotel Minneapolis, to make our poster! Their CARE Committee recently held a “Back to School” donation drive for a local organization called Mary’s Place. Mary’s Place is a safety-net organization to help those who cannot obtain help from the welfare system. The facility provides food, clothing, showers, temporary housing, transportation assistance, medical and dental help and more. They collected clothing, shoes, backpacks, and office supplies in addition to donating toiletries, pads of paper and pens leftover from when the hotel was a Doubletree. Pictured here: Robbie Voss, Amy Reierson, Kelly Fitzgerald, Amanda Hauschildt, Amy Bixenman, Ashley Williams, Kelli Thomas, John Peart, and Emily Nichols. |

The hospitality industry plays an important role in the commerce of our communities. Whether guest lecturing at a local community college or participating in a Career Day, it is important to volunteer time to education at every level. Dan Kaplan, General Manager at the Westin St. Louis, volunteered for a 5-week Junior Achievement program where he introduced “The Work Environment” to a class of 1st graders. Here is Dan with his students. Who knows, maybe there is a future GM amongst them! |
