The team at The Embassy Suites Hotel – Orlando Downtown paid a visit to the local Fire Department on September 11th to deliver a basket full of yummy cookies. This was their way of saying thank you to their Fire Fighters (First responders). Here you can see the team with a few fire fighters at the station. |

The Renaissance Fort Lauderdale Cruise Port Hotel has joined forces with Good Seed Fellowship to give assistance to their family and friends in Haiti. After learning from Laundry Attendant Marie Suzette Mondestin that her brother has been running an orphanage for children who lost their families during the 2010 Haiti earthquake, they knew they wanted to help! The Tender Hand Orphanage cares for 36 children between the ages of 1 and 13 years. The orphanage has encountered many obstacles over the past year but still moves forward with help through donations. The Renaissance Fort Lauderdale Cruise Port Hotel started a drive to collect donations to show their support for the Tender Hand Orphanage. Over the past 30 days they have accumulated thousands of dollars in cash, toys, food, water and clothing. This overwhelming support of our neighboring country has been a true testament to the culture of the Renaissance. |

Boston's NPR news station is a major source of news and information in New England and one of the country's pre-eminent public radio stations. WBUR provides thorough and intelligent coverage of national, international and regional news, plus extensive reports from National Public Radio (NPR), the BBC, Public Radio International, American Public Media and WBUR's own newsroom. The Liberty Hotel showed their support of the news station by participating in their annual Valentine's Day flower campaign fundraiser. The volunteer mission was to answer phone calls from WBUR donors as well as take orders for callers to send flowers to a loved one. Team Liberty collectively brought in about $2,000 dollars in donations. |

VT/NH Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure
For the 5th year in a row, team Equinox made an ever-growing showing to support Susan G. Komen's VT/NH Race for the Cure. Seen here, Susan Wheeler, Spa Director, congratulated a tired Sean Young (Jenn Young, HRD – son) who completed the 1-mile fun run in the name of his beloved Aunt Donna.
Kids Are Our Future
The hotel opened their doors to this local classroom to provide practical application to their studies of matter and how it behaves in Science. Why does bread dough rise? Why was the dough sticky, and now it's not? What does the egg wash do, and why do you need it?
Hosting the Special Olympics
Our own Angela Greene, Reservations Supervisor sang the national anthem at the annual Special Olympics Golf Tournament held at The Golf Course at Equinox. |

Chef Frank Mach of our Sheraton Ft Lauderdale Airport Hotel was presented an award by the AMG Coalition. Frank sells the hotel’s old grease to them which is then broken down to create an alternative bio diesel fuel used for energy. This coalition is privately owned to support and build the infrastructure needed to bring alternative fuels to the mainstream public. They have retrofit fleet vehicles that use natural gas and have the only public accessible filling station in south. The consortium also is outfitting metro busses in Deerfield and Miami Dade to run on natural gas. Great job, Frank, for supporting the reduction of our carbon footprint! |

The Hilton Indianapolis participated in the local Extreme Dream Makeover event. This is an event where the hotel joins other hotels in the city and renovate a room for a child with special needs. In this opportunity, the team fixed up a room for 13 year old Grace who has a rare chromosome disease. Grace loves her new room, and the landscaping the team helped with around her mother’s house. |

It is important to build a strong relationship with our local community.
So when the local Chamber of Commerce asked the associates of our Le Meridien
Cambridge to volunteer in a clean up campaign they jumped at the opportunity.
Our associates along with several other local companies came together to
beautify two Cambridge Locations, the Cambridge City Hall and the Cambridge
Common. They spent several hours planting flowers and cleaning tree wells.

Renovations provide us with great partnership opportunities. The Marriott Hanover is currently being renovated. At the property,
rather than throw all old items into the dumpster, they are now being separated (cardboard, metal, wood, and drywall) and transferred to a waste recycling center. Installers are using low VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) adhesives/sealants to minimize impact to indoor air quality. Wood veneers used throughout the project are from sustainable sources through controlled harvesting and reforestation. Ceramic tiles used in the project are manufactured from a minimum of 40% preconsumer recycled material, and natural materials such as wool in carpeting and leather in seating are being used throughout. |

Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration have joined forces with HEI Hotels & Resorts to create a course in which students work with hospitality industry leaders to devise innovative and more cost-effective solutions to social and environmental issues. This semester the class has been focused on developing ideas for HEI to reduce the amount of waste (garbage) that is created at our hotels and thrown in the dumpster. The results of this program will be sent out in April. |

Embassy Suites Hotels have switched their in-room coffee
program to Rain Forest Alliance Coffee. This relationship supports
Embassy Suites’ focus on partnering with companies that support
sustainability. The Rain Forest Alliance certifies coffee, as well as
other products and services, only when it is produced under specific
standards. In order to bear the Rainforest Alliance Certified™ seal on
any product, farms must ensure the people who grow the coffee, and
the land they grow it on, are carefully supported and sustained. |
