HEI Loves & Other Causes

HEI is not just a place to work, we are a group of creative and passionate individuals who care deeply about helping one another, protecting our planet’s resources and improving the communities where we live, work and play. Whether we are setting and achieving sustainability goals, thanking a co-worker with a personal note or donating our time, talents and resources, we make it a point to make a difference in the world around us, wherever we are.

HEI LOVES

We believe that love should cover everything we do, and that’s especially true when it comes to recognizing, celebrating and showing our love for our associates.

Celebrating and Awarding Our Associates

Although “love” is a word seldom used in the business world, it entirely defines our culture here at HEI. Our distinct and many differences define who we are as individuals, yet one thing ties us all together: we work hard day-in and day-out to provide for and care for our families and loved ones.

Understanding this truth, along with the simple fact that our associates have a choice as to where to build their careers, HEI Loves is built upon recognizing that our success starts and ends with our associates. That’s why we’re committed to treating our associates with the highest levels of respect, trust and integrity, and we’re committed to reinvesting our results back into them.

How do we reinvest the results we achieve together back into our teams? By listening to their feedback and by walking the walk, so to speak, in all of the areas that matter most to their careers. These areas include best-in-class compensation, attractive benefit packages, generous PTO and flex-time programs, diversity and inclusion initiatives, women in leadership programs, career development and advancement opportunities, and a full suite of industry-leading tools and resources – to name a few.

Achieving great things together is not necessarily easy, but, when a group of incredibly talented, driven and passionate people come together, set goals and hold each other accountable, amazing things can happen. We’re able to reinvest back into our associates – along with the thousands of families counting on us – when we achieve these results together. The better the results, the more we can share through HEI Loves.

Last but definitely not least, while we undoubtedly work hard, we also have fun! Maybe that’s why we have consistently enjoyed some of the highest Associate Satisfaction Scores in our industry.

HEI Loves in Action

Our commitment to caring for our associates and guests, along with our passion for serving local communities and protecting our planet, is evidenced by the practices and initiatives we undertake day after day, year after year.

Sustainability in Operations

We’re committed to offsetting the carbon footprint by implementing green programs in the hotels we operate. We reduce wastewater in our guestrooms by using faucet restrictors, and we take advantage of recyclable packaging for F&B, including using 100% recycled paperboard, paper straws in our bars and restaurants, and more.

Associate-Led Charitable Activities

We believe it’s important to get involved in the local community, and we host monthly charitable service activities in the areas surrounding our hotels. Associates can support the charity or community service of their choice, and everyone is encouraged to participate.

Corporate-Led Charitable Activities

Throughout the year, we host several corporate-led initiatives with donations and proceeds going to a variety of national charities, including the Colorectal Cancer Alliance, the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and Shatterproof, our corporate charitable partner and a national nonprofit organization dedicated to reversing the addiction crisis in the United States.

Workplace Safety and Cleanliness

At HEI, we believe that maintaining a safe workplace environment is essential to our success. Our safety program is designed to foster associate safety and awareness until safety in the workplace becomes second nature. The global pandemic has further amplified this commitment to our associates and has allowed us to enhance our protocols by way of additional protective equipment, more frequent cleaning schedules and extensive ongoing training. We have been able to swiftly adapt our policies and training to implement these new standards before they were mandated by state agencies.

Tuition Reimbursement

We’re proud to support our associates through educational assistance. We offer tuition reimbursement for all associates who wish to advance their education and/or receive the training they need to enhance their skills and grow their career with us.

Public Transit Savings Program

For our associates who take the subway, bus, train or other forms of public transportation to work each day, we offer a public transit savings program that allows them to save on their daily commute cost. This program is available in select markets.

Sustainably Sourced Foods

We make every effort to support sustainable food systems whenever possible. Whether it’s sourcing sustainably wild-caught or responsibly farmed fish and seafood, supporting organic or bio-dynamic agriculture, or buying direct from local family-owned farms, our goal is always the same: to secure the finest, freshest ingredients for our guests, while reducing the waste and consumption of non-renewable resources.

Shatterproof

HEI Chairman Gary Mendell is also the founder and CEO of Shatterproof, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to reversing the course of the addiction crisis in America. Shatterproof is focused on ensuring that American substance use disorder treatment is based upon proven research and ending the stigma of addiction. The organization provides public education through online programs and advocates for changes to federal and state policy, payer reform, and treatment quality assessment.
